Visit Seattle for the matches, then head to the spectacular San Juan Islands!

With Seattle hosting six matches in June & July 2026, it’s a great time to take a pre or post trip to the San Juan Islands. Set your mind to “island time” for whale watching, kayaking, hiking, biking, great food & drink, as well as plenty of history, arts & island culture.

There are multiple ways to get to the San Juan Islands, and every route offers its own scenic adventure. To make the most of your time, especially on a shorter visit, planning ahead is key. Booking transportation, lodging, dining, and activities in advance ensures a smooth, stress-free trip. Check out the information below to start planning your vacation to the breathtaking San Juan Islands! For match schedules and more information go to visitseattle.org/Sea26.

Q: How do I get to the Islands?
A:
You can travel to the islands by taking the Washington State Ferry from Anacortes, by small plane or seaplane from Seattle, Everett, or Bellingham, or by a seasonal passenger ferry from Port Townsend. You can also join a whale watching tour with Puget Sound Express from Edmonds, which includes a two-hour stop in Friday Harbor on San Juan Island.

Q: Do I need to bring my car?
A: It depends on the activities you’re planning and which island you’re visiting. On San Juan Island, you can rent a scoot coupes, mopeds, and more from Susie’s Mopeds, rent bikes, or use local taxis or the Jolly Trolley to get around. On Orcas Island, you can rent a car from Orcas Island Rental Car, rent bikes (be sure to book ahead and confirm pickup location), or call a taxi. On Lopez Island, you can rent bikes from Edenwild Adventures or take a taxi.

Q: What is the fastest way to get to the Islands?
A: The fastest way to get to the Islands is by taking a small plane or seaplane from Seattle, Everett, or Bellingham. Find more info on our Airlines & Charters page

Q: Do I need a ferry reservation?
A: Yes! We highly recommend making a ferry reservation ahead of time, as boats fill up quickly during the busy summer months. Make your reservations here.

Q: Can I take a day trip to the Islands?
A: Absolutely! While it is possible to take a day trip to the Islands, we recommend spending at least two nights so you can enjoy the full island experience.
