Winter Solstice Luminary Parade - Orcas Island

The Winter Solstice Luminaria Parade will begin at 5:00 pm at the corner of Haven Road and Main Street on Sunday, December 21, and weave through Eastsound to the Village Green. Everyone is invited to participate!

Orcas Island’s Winter Solstice Luminary Parade is a beautiful and moving celebration marking the longest night of the year and the slow return of light. Participants carry handcrafted lanterns, often adorned with personal touches, illuminating the streets of Eastsound as they walk together. The parade culminates at the Village Green, where participants dance and sing songs in honor of the light’s slow return. First organized in 2023 by the Orcas Island Community Foundation, the solstice celebration symbolizes hope and community during the winter season and is the perfect opportunity to embrace the quiet beauty of the longest night and look forward to the promise of longer days ahead.

Volunteers are needed to help with setup and street closures. Please email info@oicf.us if you are interested!
