Nerikomi is a Japanese decorative process that involves stacking colored clays and then slicing through the cross section to reveal patterns. In this class, you will be provided with colored clay and instructions to create one-of-a-kind patterned ceramics.
In the 1st half of the class, we will make a few patterned clay blocks, and we’ll spend the 2nd half making things with our clay.
Examples of objects to make include mugs, incense holders, small plates, and bowls. All student work will be fired and clear-glazed in order to highlight the patterns made in class! You will be able to pick up your pieces, or they can be mailed 3-4 weeks after class. (Shipping charges are extra).
This class is open to all levels, and is perfect for beginners or seasoned potters alike!
This class is taught by visiting artist Camila Giraldo, a Chicago-based ceramics artist.
